1.
LAT & LONG:
If you have the particular LATITUDE and LONGITUDE of what
you want to look at choose option 1. You will be asked for
LATITUDE first then LONGITUDE. DO NOT ENTER MINUTES AND
SECONDS, however you are permitted to enter DECIMAL parts of
a degree.
You are then asked to enter a scaling factor (a number from
one to five). A default scale of 3 is selected by pressing
the enter key. The largest area is 1 and the most detailed
is 5.
Most areas of the western Atlantic will then ask if you
want hurricane tracks (tracks of 1985 Atlantic hurricanes are
included as file "TRAKS"). No tracks of hurricanes is the
default. Hitting "Y" will read and plot tracks.
The upper left corner will show a horizontal line which
indicates 100 Miles on the particular map position shown
The upper right corner of the screen will show the number of
miles in one degree at the latitude of the center of the map
on the screen.
Starting on the second line of the display will be the names
of all NATIONAL CAPITALS which appear on the display and a
small circle identifying the capital at the appropriate
coordinates.
2.& 3.
AREA & EUROPE:
Selected areas of the world and especially the USA are
presented in a list. Choose by typing the capitalized
letters for your desired area (don't use the lowercase
letters ie. S.AM for S.AMerica). Scaling is handled by the
program and the upper right corner of the screen displays
the number of miles per degree at the center lat.
4.
USA:
A special map of the USA including state borders.
5.
STATE CAPITALS:
State capitals are presented alphabetically and selected by
number. You are then asked for a scaling factor as in item
#1 and ,if appropriate, whether you want hurricane tracks.
Again the upper left presents the 100 Mile scale, the upper
right the miles per degree at the lat of the capital you
selected, and on the second line any National Capitals that
are on the visible map.
The lower left of the screen shows the name of the capital
that the map is centered upon. The capital is marked with a
small circle. Its lat is show at right center and and long
at bottom center.
6.
OTHER CITIES:
Thirty eight selected cities are displayed alphabetically and
allow selection by number. Scaling factors and hurricane
track questions are as in #1. 100 mile indicator, miles per
degree and National Caps are as above. The name of the city
and its Lat and Long. are also displayed.
7.
NATIONAL CAPITALS:
116 randomly selected national capitals are displayed in
alphabetical order on 2 pages. Select by number. 999 for
additional pages. As in previous options scale and hurricane
requests (when appropriate) are asked for. The 100 mile
line, miles per degree, center location and other visible
capitals are displayed as above.
8.
HURRICANE DATA:
Allows you to keep track of future Atlantic
Hurricanes. It asks the storm's name first, then date in MMDD
form, then type (Hurricane tropicalStorm tropicalDepresion
or Other),then lat and long. It will then ask if you have
data on other storms (default is no). You are then asked if
you want the display of hurricane data. If you respond "y"
then a display will be generated centered upon your last
storm data with a 100 mile radius circle around it.
All appropriate data will be displayed as above.
9.
ORTHOGRAPHIC VIEW:
Asks for viewing long. (default is 0 deg)
then presents an image of the world which is Orthographically
corrected for your selected long. The display is always from
180 deg west to 180 deg east so watch the world distort as
you view it from different longitudes.
10.
POINTER:
A Mercator projection of the world is displayed
with a pointer located in the Atlantic Ocean. Use your
cursor or number keys to position the cursor at the location
you desire to examine. As the cursor moves its lat and long
will be indicated. When it is near where you want it hit the
ENTER key and the cursor will become the center of an
expanded view. You can now reposition the cursor and expand
again by hitting ENTER. Including the full world map you
have five expansions. Expansion beyond the fifth level
returns the world map. Hitting the "E" key at any level
returns you to the Menu.
99.
Exit:
Provides a graceful exit to DOS from the MAIN MENU.
GENERAL
MOST INPUTS HAVE A DEFAULT. IF NOT SPECIFIED ON THE SCREEN THE
PROGRAM WILL USE YOUR LAST RESPONSE TO A SPECIFIC REQUEST.THERE
ARE NO DEFAULTS WHERE YOU ARE TO TYPE A SPECIFIC NAME. HOWEVER
YOU CAN GENERALLY DEFAULT FROM ONE DISPLAY TO ANOTHER WITHOUT
CHANGING LAT & LONG. YOU WILL NOTE THE ABSENCE OF BOUNDARY LINES
IN ALL EXCEPT NORTH & CENT AMERICA AND WESTERN EUROPE. ADDING
